GAINESVILLE - A 41-year-old man has now been charged with murder in the shooting death of another man at Tadmore Park in Hall County Sunday afternoon.

Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said Saul Mendez Castillo has now been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Silverio Acosta of Gainesville.

Both Castillo and Acosta were spectators at an adult-league soccer game when the confrontation occurred, according to Wilbanks.

"The investigation has revealed that the two men apparently were acquainted with each other from previous years in El Salvador," said Wilbanks.

Wilbanks said deputies responded to Tadmore Park just after 4 p.m. to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived, deputies discovered the victim, who had been shot multiple times and was dead at the scene. He said Castillo had been detained by Hall County Marshals, who were working as security guards at the game.

In addition to murder charges, Castillo has been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He also has been placed under an immigration hold, since he is suspected of being in the country illegally.

Castillo has a first court appearance scheduled later today.

No one else was injured as a result of the incident.
