Early-voter record set in Hall Co. on final day

GAINESVILLE - A record number of early voters patiently made their way through the winding queue of citizens at the Hall County Government Center on Friday in order to cast their ballots.

Friday was the final day of early voting which began October 15th.

Hall County Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee said, "We had 2,346 voters processed...which was a record daily total."

"We had a line all day; all day there was a line. The line was out the door and up the sidewalk," Sosebee added. "There was probably about a 55-minute wait-time (maximum) I heard of in the longest line."

"Anybody standing in line (when we closed at 5 o'clock) was allowed to vote. I think the last voter voted about 5:45, and I was one of the last voters," Sosebee said.

"It was just a great day for us."

When asked what sort of turnout she expected for the general election on Tuesday, Sosebee speculated, "I do have (a) projection of about 35 percent."

Sosbee said her office continues to receive absentee ballots and will do so until the polls close at 7pm on Tuesday.
