A community comes together to make a difference

ATLANTA - Hundreds of volunteers, players, sponsors and celebrities joined forces with the Daniel Hager Endowment Fund of the Georgia Tech Foundation to raise scholarship funds for Georgia Tech Students. The group hosted its annual Celebrity Golf Tournament Chaired, by Bobby Cox, at St Ives Country Club.<br /> <br /> "This year's event was our 5th Annual," said Kaye Litzinger, Co-Chair. "We raised over $25,000 in funds and we couldn't have done it without the help of the volunteers, players, celebrities and sponsors. We are so blessed that they all continue to come back and help year after year."<br /> <br /> Many volunteers have been involved since its inception. Todd Stalder, Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc. and Sally McNulty Richards, Liazon Benefits Solution Company have been providing professional marketing services for over five years. "We've been pleased to offer my professional design services," said Todd, Director of the Event and 1981 GA Tech Graduate. "Giving back to the community is important to our company and it's extremely rewarding to see the positive impact that we make in these students lives." <br /> <br /> "Voluntary service is at the core of who we are as American's and it's in our nature to help," said Sally, Public Relations Chair of the Event. "The Daniel Hager Golf Tournament is a great event to bring together people who can use their talent, time, resources and money to create real change in the lives of others."<br /> <br /> This years Celebrity Golf Tournament featured a 5 Person Scramble with a celebrity paired with each foursome team. Ongoing were Hole-In-One, Long Drive, Closest to Pin, Duck Race and $10,000 Putting Contests. <br /> <br /> Many sponsors and celebrities participated including Inward; Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc.; Southern Barter Club; Team Honda of Lithia Springs, GA; Team Toyota of Lithia Springs, GA; Hennessy Lexus of Gwinnett; Mellow Mushroom Cumming, Avenues Forsyth ; Heineken USA; Waterwheel Cigars and Alps Pools. Participating celebrities included Bobby Cox (25 year Manager of the Atlanta Braves); Steve Bartkowski (Former Falcons Quarterback); Mike Bell (Former MLB Player of the Atlanta Braves); Roald Bradstock (Former Olympic Javelin Athlete); Jennifer Brewer (Former Olympic Team Handball Athlete); Tyrone "Hollywood" Brown (Former Harlem Globetrotter); Dave Brundage (Manager of the Gwinnett Braves); Brad Clontz (Former Relief Pitcher for the Atlanta Braves; John Davis (Former Georgia Tech Football Player); Dale Ellis (Former NBA Player); Harvey Glance (Olympic Gold Medalist Track & Field- Former Univ. Alabama Coach); Brian Jordan (Former MLB Outfielder & NFL Safety, Current Atlanta Braves Announcer); Nikita Le Jerrell (Former Olympic Fencing Athlete); Javy Lopez (Former Atlanta Braves Catcher); Greg McMichael (Former Atlanta Braves Relief Pitcher); Jim Nash (Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher); Mel Pender (Olympic Gold Medalist in the Relay Race, 2012 Inductee into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame); Marty Perez (Former Atlanta Braves Shortstop); Zane Smith (Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher); Brian Snitker (3rd Base Coach Atlanta Braves); Rick Strom (Former GT Quarterback and NFL Player, Current Color Announcer for the GT Yellow Jackets); Carlos Tosca (Current Bench Coach for Atlanta Braves). <br /> <br /> The event was wrapped up with both Silent and Live Auctions and an Awards Ceremony. The group 4Shore, who appeared on X Factor, closed the Awards Ceremony singing "Georgia on My Mind". <br /> <br /> <br /> <strong>About the Scholarships:</strong><br /> <br /> Each year, The West Lanier Georgia Tech Network selects students to receive the scholarships from the proceeds of the annual celebrity golf tournaments. Applications are accepted from students at schools across East Cherokee, Forsyth and North Fulton Counties. Eligible students are entering freshmen in their first year of study at Georgia Tech and who would graduate from Creekview, Lambert, Central Forsyth, West Forsyth, North Forsyth, South Forsyth, Milton, or local private Forsyth County High Schools. <br /> <br /> To date, the annual golf tournaments have donated over $109,086.00 to the fund and a total of 20 Students have received a scholarship. <br /> <br /> <strong>About Daniel Hager Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund:</strong><br /> <br /> The Daniel Hager Endowment Fund of the Georgia Tech Foundation, Inc. was established by Kaye and Gerry Litzinger, to honor the life of their son, Daniel Hager, BS ME 1997, MS MGT 1999. It awards scholarships to entering freshmen students at the Georgia Institute of Technology by the Office of Student Financial Planning and Services on the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee of the West Lanier Georgia Tech Network. Applications are accepted from students at area schools across East Cherokee, Forsyth and North Fulton Counties. Eligible students are entering freshmen in their first year of study at Georgia Tech and who would graduate from Creekview, Lambert, Central Forsyth, West Forsyth, North Forsyth, South Forsyth, Milton, or local private Forsyth County High Schools.<br /> <br />
