LAWRENCEVILLE- The Norfolk Tides beat the Gwinnett Braves 5-4 on Saturday night, taking the opener of the final three game series of the season at Coolray Field. Gwinnett blew a 4-0 lead through 6 innings as the Tides came back with the home run ball in the 7th and 8th frames. The G-Braves (67-67) drop to 16.5 games behind International League South leaders Durham, who clinched the division already, in second place. Gwinnett is still 6.5 games back of Wild Card leaders Columbus. The Tides (62-73) are in last place in the division, 22.0 games out (all numbers at press time).
Gwinnett continues its final homestand of the season, taking on the Norfolk Tides in the second contest of the final three game series of the season at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday. The G-Braves will send RHP Brandon Beachy (2-0, 2.67 ERA) to the mound against LHP Troy Patton (7-11, 4.67 ERA) for the Tides. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM, starting with the pre-game at 1:35pm.
