Macon lawmaker denies referencing Ku Klux Klan

MACON - Democratic Sen. Robert Brown said he was speaking about GOP sex scandals, not the Ku Klux Klan, when he made a televised remark that prompted a Republican to ask for an apology.
The Macon lawmaker said during a WMAZ-TV show taped Tuesday that he was surprised that an unnamed Democratic colleague switched to the GOP after Republicans made big gains in the November election. He said the politician needs to keep his white sheets for the ``midnight meeting.''
During a news conference Thursday, Brown said he wasn't talking about the white robes and night meetings of the white hate group. Brown said Republicans preach Christian purity until they get to the white sheets of their hotel rooms.
Brown said Republican Rep. Allen Peake, who called for the apology, has refused to meet face-to-face.
