GAINESVILLE - The amount of rain recorded in Gainesville so far this month is the largest monthly total since September 2004.
That's when 13.44 inches were recorded... most of it the result of the remnants of three tropical storms - Frances, Ivan and Jeanne - that moved through Georgia.
As of Sunday morning, 13.72 inches had been recorded at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport, all but .43 inches in the 12-day period ending Saturday.
Elsewhere in the region, Buford picked up 1.70 inches and Clarkesville recorded 2.66 inches.
