Mayor calls for resignation of board member

<p>Macon Mayor Jack Ellis wants an industrial authority board member to resign after making what some felt were offensive comments about American Indians during a meeting.</p><p>Charlotte McMullan joked about scalping on Monday during a Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority Board meeting in which a trip to Okmulgee, Okla., for the inauguration of a new chief of the Muscogee (Creek) nation was discussed.</p><p>It was very offensive and it was very stereotypical, and (McMullan) owes all Native Americans a public apology, said Ellis, also a board member, who did not attend Mondays meeting. Thats not the kind of representation that I want on this board.</p><p>McMullan, who has served on the board since January 2003, said Tuesday that her remarks were taken out of context. She would not comment on the mayors call for her resignation.</p>
