The Georgia Department of Transportation is set to replace Suwanee's Martin Farm Road bridge, which will lead to closures over the span of a year.

According to a press release from the City of Suwanee, the bridge was originally built in 1978 and does not meet current design standards.

The new bridge will be 240 feet long and about nine feet wider. The city said this will improve traffic safety and allow for the addition of a sidewalk. The bridge deck will also be raised by seven feet, allowing for the passage of more water to reduce flooding.

The project is expected to go out to bids in June with construction expected to begin in late summer. The bridge is projected to be closed to all traffic from September 2023 to September 2024. The city said residents can follow this detour during the closure.

The Suwanee Greenway will also experience intermittent closures during this time period. Also, the trail connecting the Old Town Suwanee area to the Greenway will be closed throughout the project.

More information about the project can be viewed here.
