Several Memorial Day events are planned for North Georgia as the nation honors fallen U.S. military personnel.

In Gainesville, American Legion Post 7's Memorial Day parade returns to Green Street for the first time in two years.

The event starts at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Gainesville. The parade will then travel down Green Street and onto E E Butler Parkway.

Andre Castleberry with American Legion Post 7 spoke on WDUN's Mornings on Maine Street about the event.

"We're looking forward to having a good parade on Monday," Castleberry said.

Castleberry said the parade will include various veterans organizations, the Gainesville High School band, car clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations. They are still taking applications to participate in the parade, even though their website showed an earlier deadline for applications. You can apply to take part in the parade on their website.

The public can begin lining up at about 7 a.m. Monday.

The community can also honor veterans at 2 p.m. Sunday during the 2022 Memorial Day ceremony at Gainesville's Rock Creek Park.

Johnny Hulsey spoke on WDUN's Mornings on Maine Street and said all of the monuments at Rock Creek Park were completed using donations from veterans.

"We hope everybody turns out," Hulsey said.

A summary of events taking place in the region is available below:

Additional North Georgia Memorial Day events can be added to this list by emailing [email protected] with the details, time and location of the event.
