OAKWOOD — There are two familiar names at the top of the leaderboard of this year's Hall County Golf Championships.

As the tournament got underway on Monday at Chicopee Woods, the Gainesville boys have positioned themselves to add another county championship to the trophy case with a nine-stroke lead over Cherokee Bluff.

Meanwhile, the defending champion North Hall girls finished round one with an 18-stroke lead over Cherokee Bluff.

The tournament continues on Tuesday in Oakwood.

But it was North Hall's Colin Henderson that shot a tournament-low 33 to pace the Trojans, who sit 13 strokes out of the lead.

For Gainesville, senior Wiley Hickerson and freshman Henry Kopydlowski both fired a 1-under par 35, Brigham Ralston turned in an even-par 36 and senior Ryan Davidson finished 1-over par 37 to lift the Red Elephants to the top of the leaderboard.

On the girls side, Lillie Mallis led the new-look Lady Trojans with a 42 and is second in the individual standings. Her teammate, Makayla Jones, sits in third place after an opening-round 44.

Cherokee Bluff’s Alisa Pressley grabbed the lead with a 39 and is in position to capture her first individual title as Day 2 begins Tuesday afternoon.
