A Clermont man has been arrested in connection with the recent robbery of a pedestrian on a Gainesville street.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said in a media statement the crime occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 15 on Benson Drive near West Ridge Road in Gainesville.

Deputies were called to the scene at 10:10 a.m. to investigate the reported robbery.

The victim, a 67-year-old man, told investigators he was walking along Benson Drive when the suspect, later identified as Jermairah Devonta Holland, 31, began to follow him in a vehicle. Holland reportedly got out of his car, holding his hand under his shirt as if he was armed with a gun, and robbed the man of an unspecified amount of cash. Holland then fled the scene in the car.

Deputies and Gainesville Police Department officers searched the area, but they were unable to immediately locate the vehicle or Holland. As the investigation continued, detectives were able to identify Holland and take out a warrant for his arrest on Monday, Sept. 20. Holland was arrested at his residence on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Holland has been charged with robbery by force; he remained in the Hall County Jail with no bond at last check.
