The Gainesville metro unemployment rate dropped to the lowest rate in recorded history in September, according to Thursday's report from the Georgia Department of Labor.

The jobless rate of 1.7% is down five-tenths of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 4%.

"We are seeing all-time low unemployment rates throughout the state of Georgia reflecting an economy that is continuing to rapidly recover," said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.

The challenge now, according to Butler, is finding people for seasonal jobs.

"We are working with employers across the state to post, recruit and fill critical positions in preparation for a strong holiday employment season," Butler said.

In other September 2021 statistics for the one-county Gainesville metro:

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,621 active job postings in Gainesville for September.
