One of Hall County's most well-known companies is getting ready to make some improvements to its Flowery Branch facility and hire some more employees.
Mars Wrigley Confectionary, which has operated in Hall County for nearly 50 years, announced plans to make $60 million worth of improvements to its current facility over the next few years, according to Tim Evans, Vice President for Economic Development for the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce.
Evans described the move as a "renewed commitment" to the Hall County business market.
"And it's a significant one," Evans said. "We've seen over the years from the Mars Wrigley operation that about every three to four years they have another significant capital investment."
The financial investment will be used to add new technology and make some structural upgrades to the current facilities at 4500 Atlanta Highway, according to Evans.
"In this facility, they make many of the Wrigley brand gums that we see in retailers around the United States, but they also make gum for other markets - for Canada and elsewhere," Evans said, noting the far-reaching impact of the company.
As part of the expansion, Mars Wrigley will hire an additional 126 employees; the company already employs 900 people at the Flowery Branch facility.
"They have employees that have been with their operation [in Hall County] for more than 40 years. In fact, they have one employee that has been with Mars Wrigley since they first started operating in the early 1970's," Evans said.
In fact, Evans said Mars Wrigley will be one of the exhibitors at the Chamber's upcoming job fair at the Gainesville Civic Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
"For people that are interested in those job opportunities, they can certainly find information about those jobs at the job fair next week," said Evans.
