Award-winning theatre director Pam Ware was honored Tuesday as the 2019 Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

Ware, whose name graces Gainesville High School's Performing Arts Center, has been teaching and directing theatre productions since 1974. Ware and her students have won eight state championships and more than 40 region titles for theatre performance.

Since 1999, the Girls Scouts of Historic Georgia has recognized women who reflect the values in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Those chosen for the Woman of Distinction honor also serve as excellent role models for girls.

"Her contributions to the community, dedication to the arts and her passion for serving as a role model make [Pam Ware] an ideal recipient for this honor," read the program for Tuesday's ceremony.

One of Ware's former students - Camille Massey - was the Mistress of Ceremonies, and paid tribute to Ware.
