Senior citizens in the Fair Street community are helping students at a Gainesville elementary school with their reading.

The volunteers are donating their time monthly at Fair Street Academy.

"Eleven senior citizens have committed to spending every second Tuesday of each month reading with Fair Street students," according to a posting in the latest Gainesville City School System newsletter.  "This unique partnership allows the volunteers to assist students with reading and allows students to directly interact with elders of the community and enhance their reading skills. By establishing a stronger relationship between Fair Street Academy and the community, senior citizens are actively engaged with students while supporting the educational needs of the school."
