A man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Forsyth County on Wednesday morning might have had a medical issue that caused the accident, according to authorities.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Desmond Hugh Smith, 64 of Dekalb County.

Investigators said Smith was driving a 2016 Freightliner box truck eastbound on Canton Highway (SR 20) when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and then back across the road into a ditch. The crash happened near Post Road.

Investigators said Smith was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The fatal accident was reported at 5:05 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
