Special Master in Georgia-Florida water wars case dies at 88

The man who served for nearly four years as the Special Master overseeing the Georgia-Florida water wars lawsuit has died.
 
Ralph Lancaster of Portland, Maine had been appointed by the U.S. Supreme Court to mediate the case over water use in the Chattahoochee-Apalachicola-Flint River Basin, which includes Lake Lanier.
 
Lancaster, who was 88, was appointed in Nov. 2014 as Special Master in the ongoing legal feud between the two states over the amount of water Georgia uses in the river basin. He was "discharged with the thanks of the Court on Aug. 8, 2018.
 
Lancaster's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2 in Portland.
