A Rabun County woman was flown for treatment of burns after a Tuesday-night fire that resulted in the death of a number of pets.
The fire, at a mobile home at 318 Theodore St., Mountain City, was dispatched at 6:16 p.m. Tuesday, according to Rabun County Assistant Fire Chief Justin Upchurch.
The Mountain City Police Department was first to arrive at the scene, and officers found the female occupant outside the residence, suffering from burns.
Rabun County Fire Services stations 1, 5, and 12 arrived to fight the fire in the living room area of the structure.
“The first arriving fire units extinguished the fire and Rabun County EMS treated the burn victim, ultimately transporting to her to a landing zone established at the Mountain City administration building,” Upchurch said. “AirLife 2 then transported the patient to Grady Hospital Burn Center in Atlanta. A number of pets were found deceased in the residence.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Mountain City Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
