Authorities identify Atlanta woman as person found dead in Lanier Friday

A body found in Lake Lanier in the southern end of Hall County Friday afternoon was identified by authorities Monday morning as that of an Atlanta woman.
 
The woman was identified as Shannon Sancho, 30, according to Hall County Sheriff's Spokesman Derreck Booth.
 
Around noon Friday, Booth said deputies responded to the shoreline of the lake just off Georgia 347/Lanier Islands Parkway, near a small parking lot that is close to the enterance of Lake Lanier Islands resort. A fisherman had discovered an adult's body near the shore.
 
Sheriff's officials were able to determine it was the body of a woman and located a vehicle they believe to be hers in the parking area, near where the body was found.
 
The body was sent to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
 
Alongside the Sheriff's Office, Hall County Fire Services, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also responded to the initial scene.
