Former DDS employee charged with stealing licenses, child molestation

When Oakwood police and Hall County deputies went to serve an arrest warrant for child molestation at a residence on Skyview Lane, they found the suspect they were searching for, but they also found something else that linked the man to additional crimes.

 

Sgt. Todd Templeton with the Oakwood Police Department said officers initially were looking for Esteban Olivas, 25, of Gainesville in connection with the molestation of a 12-year-old boy.

 

While executing the search warrant on Tuesday, they also found 76 stolen driver's licenses. Templeton said Olivas had worked at the Gainesville office of the Department of Driver Services (DDS) and had taken the licenses while he was on the job.

 

"When someone would come in to renew their license or upgrade their license from a learner's permit - or a Class D license - and they would change to a Class C, he took and kept those licenses that were surrendered," Templeton said. 

 

All but one of the licenses were State of Georgia licenses; the other was from Massachusetts. Investigators determined Olivas last worked for the DDS in mid-2017.

 

In addition to the stolen licenses, authorities also seized two firearms, drug paraphernalia, several cell phones and computers from the residence.

 

As far as the molestation case is concerned, Templeton said it involved two assaults on the same young boy. Officers were tipped off to the alleged crimes on Jan. 13. 

 

"Our victim, who is a young male, was on a social media website back in December of 2018. He met the suspect while on that social media website," Templeton said. "The suspect propositioned the young man and enticed him with money. The young man agreed to meet with the suspect and the suspect picked the young man up from his neighborhood, took him to a nearby hotel, where an act of molestation occurred."

 

Templeton said the same type of incident happened last week, which prompted the search warrant for Olivas' residence.

 

Templeton said Olivas has been charged with a number of offenses by the Oakwood Police Department - two counts of aggravated child molestation, two counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of sexual trafficking of a person under the age of 18. 

 

Because Olivas' residence is located in Hall County, he was charged by Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators with 76 counts of ID theft/fraud. 

 

At this time, Olivas remains jailed with no bond.
