The cause of a fire that engulfed a home in a White County gated community Sunday remains under investigation.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, White County firefighters with automatic aid from Helen Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department responded to the fire on Deerpath Drive inside Skylake in Sautee.

When firefighters arrived, the 1,500-square-foot home was fully involved with fire, according to Ana Newberry of White County Fire Services.

“According to firefighters, there was no one home at the time of the call, however one of the occupants came home to find that the smoke alarms were sounding and there was smoke throughout the home,” Newberry said, adding that occupant dialed 9-1-1.

White County Community Emergency Response Team Rehab truck was requested at the scene, where firefighters remained on the incident for five hours.

No injuries were reported, and Red Cross assistance was declined.

Investigators are probing the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a Sautee home Sunday afternoon.
