Girls basketball: Big 4th quarter propels Branch past GAC

FLOWERY BRANCH — In a battle of ranked non-region teams, Flowery Branch rallied with a big fourth quarter to beat Greater Atlanta Christian 68-61 Saturday at home.

The Lady Falcons (16-3) led 13-9 after the first quarter but fell behind 29-26 to the Lady Spartans at halftime. GAC took a 44-42 lead into the final period.

Flowery Branch hit 13-of-21 free throws in the fourth quarter as it outscored GAC 26-17 to erase the deficit.

Ashley Woodroffe scored 9 of her team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter. Ashley Scott scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half and Caroline Wysocki had 10 of 16 in the second half as well.

GAC was paced by Jaci Bolden with a game-high 22 points. The Lady Spartans, however, has only as many field goals (19) as free throws (19-of-23)  in the game. The Lady Falcons also hit 6 3-pointers, including five by Scott, to just 4 for GAC for the game.

Flowery Branch, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, next will travel to Chestatee on Tuesday in a big Region 7-4A matchup. Chestatee is coming off an upset win over Class 3A No. 5 North Hall on Saturday.
