Forsyth leaders approve annexation of 46 acres to city of Cumming

Forsyth County leaders will not fight the annexation of 46 acres wanted by the city of Cumming for use in creating a new city center.

The board met and discussed the unique situation created by the existing border lines on surrounding land as highlighted by County Attorney Ken Jarrard.

He explained, "But in order to ensure they don't create an unincorporated island, they have to actually cross through all of those lots that are sort of hash marked in red or outlined in blue. They've got to get there through those lots. So, that makes this a little bit unusual, but not terribly so."

He said the city's concept plan for part of the undeveloped land includes zoning for apartments in that area.

Cumming City Council will vote on the annexation of county land off State Route 20 near downtown Cumming at its next regular meeting.
