UPDATE: SWAT standoff ends peacefully in Lumpkin County

Posted 9:14PM on Thursday 3rd January 2019 ( 5 years ago )

Dean Garmon will face charges after a standoff with Lumpkin County deputies at a residence on Oak Grove Road Thursday afternoon.

Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said the SWAT team was called to the scene to end the standoff with Garmon.

"He has warrants on him out of Forsyth County for felony probation (violation)," Jarrard said. "He also has aggravated assault off of a police officer at an earlier time. That's what he's out on probation for."

Jarrard said the home belongs to a woman he believes to be Garmon's girlfriend. He also said deputies were successful in getting her out of the house to safety.

After deploying gas into the home, Garmon was arrested without incident just before 7 p.m.
