An officer involved shooting Monday night in the Lawrenceville area left an armed man with life-threatening injuries.

The man allegedly pointed a gun at Gwinnett County Police officers before he was shot multiple times, according to a press release issued Tuesday morning from Gwinnett County Police.

The man lived in the Alex Lane home with his ex-wife, who called police around 8 p.m., saying her ex-husband had assaulted her.

When officers arrived on scene, the man barricaded himself inside the house with a gun, at which point officers set up a perimeter.

The man came out of the house, and was told to drop his weapon, police said. When he didn't — and subsequently pointed it at officers — he was shot several times.

The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. His ex-wife was not injured.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to take over the case.
