Panthers blast Putnam; stage set for Elbert County showdown

BLAIRSVILLE — The Union County offense continues to roll as the Panthers routed Putnam County 55-0 Friday night in a Region 8-2A battle.

Pierson Allison had another huge game for the Panthers (5-0, 2-0 Region 8-2A) passing for 258 yds and 4 touchdowns while adding 101 yards rushing. Jonah Daniel complemeted the passing game with 95 yards and three scores on just 7 carries out of the backfield. 

Allison also spread the ball around as Kanon Hemphill had 6 receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns, Sawyer Drake snagged 5 receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and Kyle Morlock added 4 catches for 47 yards.

With the win the Panthers, who have the No. 1 offense in Class 2A (222 points, 44.4 points per game), kept pace with Banks County, Elbert County, and Rabun County atop the region standings after the first two weeks.

Union County will get its biggest test of the season so far next week when it travels to the Granite Bowl to take on Elbert County (4-1, 2-0). The Blue Devils are the 7th-higest scoring team in Class 2A (176, 35.2 ppg).
