GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville High volleyball team swept past Dawson County 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) on Thursday for senior night in Gainesville.
Seniors Emily Sloan, Olivia Gettys, and Anna Grace Worley led with a combined 9 kills, 7 blocks and 14 digs. Lauren Ware added 4 aces and 11 digs. Ansley Turner had 9 kills, Isabella Appling 23 digs, and setters Camille Holcomb and Isabella Garrish combined for 23 assists. Camille Calkins, Lauren Teasley, and Kendal Glasper added 7 kills and 12 blocks.
The Lady Red Elephants (12-16) resume Area play on Tuesday against Habersham and Lanier.
CHESTATEE SPLITS WITH HABERSHAM, FORSYTH CENTRAL
The Lady War Eagles fell to Habersham Central in straight sets -- 25-12, 25-23 -- but defeated Forsyth Central in three sets -- 21-25, 25-20, 25-17 -- on Thursday.
Lindsey Bornhorst and Logan Wiggins led the offense with 5 kills apiece in the match with the Lady Raiders. Nicole Sedwick added 3 kills and 8 digs in the loss, while Sophie Davis led the defense with 11 digs.
Meanwhile, Sedwick and Bornhorst led the offense with 7 kills apiece in the win over the Lady Bulldogs. Wiggins and Maggie McNair added 4 kills apiece, while McNair had 7 aces, and Bornhorst provided 6 blocks.
Davis led the defense with 13 digs; Sedwick had 10 digs, Rachel Vandiver had 9, and Anna McNerney had 5.
