Gwinnett County SO needs more deputies

Posted 12:54PM on Thursday 6th September 2018 ( 5 years ago )
The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office has asked elected county leaders to allow for 105 new employees in the 2019 budget.

Sheriff's Deputy Shannon Volkadov said in a recent interview the new positions are needed as the county continues to grow.

"The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office serves everyone (in the county)," Volkadov said. "So, the population growth of the county directly affects us because it increases our responsibility."

Volkadov said more than 300,000 people passed through the jail just last year and the jail had more than one million visitors.

She said on top of those numbers, warrants service and other law enforcement functions prompted the request for more employees.

The additional cost to the county, if the expenditure is approved, would be $5.9 million.

Volkadov went on to say the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office is in a constant state of hiring and recruiting, and those who are interested in joining the force can visit the department website
