Lumpkin County law enforcement warns business to watch out for counterfeit cash

Posted 4:28AM on Tuesday 4th September 2018 ( 5 years ago )
The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning after receiving complaints that local merchants were given counterfeit money over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Stacy Jarrard advised merchants to examine all money to be on the safe side, but to look most closely at larger bills.

The US Department of Treasury suggest always looking for the magnetic strip inside the bill as well as watermarks. They also advise merchants to consider a black light and a marking pen to check validity.
