The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series may have had the weekend off, but there was no lack of NASCAR racing excitement, as the Xfinity Series and the Camping World Trucks battled it out on a pair of road courses.

In this week's edition of the Hard Left Turn podcast, Around the Track editor Brandon Reed and NASCAR reporter Pete McCole have a look at the race, including:

-Justin Allgaier scored his second straight NASCAR Xfinity Series road course win - and his fourth win overall of the year - on Saturday at Road America.  Where does he slot in as a championship favorite?

-Hall of Famer Bill Elliott made his first NASCAR start in six years on Saturday.  He scored a solid 20th place finish after running in and around the top 15 for much of the day.

-Could Elliott's solid outing open the door for a NASCAR "Senior Tour" in the future?  Pete and Brandon discuss.

-What is it about Canadian Tire Motorsports Park that makes NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers willing to crash each other - and themselves - coming to the checkered flag?  Whatever it is, Justin Haley got the win after teammates Todd Gilliland and Noah Gragson took each out in sight of the checkered flag.

-Speaking of the NXS and NCWTS, NASCAR has announced new rules for 2019 that could cut way back on Cup Series interlopers - at least that's what Brandon is hoping for.  He and Pete discuss the possibilities.

-We top it all off with a preview of the NASCAR Throwback Weekend at the "Track Too Tough To Tame," Darlington Raceway and the historic Southern 500.
