Starting July 30, Lanier Swafford will assume the role of battalion chief for Habersham County Emergency Services.
Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black made the announcement of Swafford's appointment on Tuesday, July 10.
"Chief Swafford comes to Habersham County Emergency Services with experience in fire, emergency medical services and emergency management since 1989," Black wrote in a press statement. "Since 2007, Chief Swafford served as chief of emergency services for Dawson County Emergency Services, where their department went through a merger of Fire and EMS, which was almost identical to what our department recently experienced. Chief Swafford’s experience in fire, EMS and certified as an emergency manager for the State of Georgia, along with directing the Fire/EMS merger, brings invaluable experience to our department."
According to Black, Swafford holds a bachelor of science degree from Waldorf College, and an applied sciences degree in Health Studies and Fire Science from Lanier Technical College.
In addition to a number of professional affiliations, Swafford serves as chairman for the Region II Emergency Medical Services Council, was appointed by the Speaker of the House to the Georgia Fire Fighters Standards and Training Council (served as chairman from 2014-2018), Region II EMS Advisory Council Chairman, past president of the Georgia State Firefighters Association, member of Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services, and member of Region II EMS Directors Association, serving as director from 2013-2015.
Black said Swafford is expected to remain active in his current roles on the state and regional level.
In his new role with Habersham County, Swafford will oversee B Shift operations for emergency services.
