Gainesville officer ok after being dragged by car

Posted 11:30PM on Saturday 7th July 2018 ( 5 years ago )

A Gainesville police officer will be ok after being dragged by a car after a traffic stop Saturday night.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook says officers stopped the vehicle on Davis Street when the passenger, who was acting erratically, suddenly jumped behind the wheel.

Holbrook said, "The individual became aggressive. He refused to comply with officer's commands. The individual then drove off, dragging the officers with the vehicle down the road. We're very fortunate that they were not seriously injured or even worse. It's just another sad reminder that law enforcement is a very dangerous profession."

He says the low speed chase ended in the area of Monroe Drive when the driver crashed the car down an embankment.

He says another passenger of the car faces drug charges and the run-away driver faces multiple felony charges.

The investigation continues to try to determine why the man ran from authorities.

Holbrook says the Hall County Sheriff's Office as well as troopers with the Georgia State Patrol assisted in this case.

This story will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
