Rentavious Buffington is the winner of the first Gainesville High School Class of '64 scholarship.

The scholarship was established earlier this year at the North Georgia Community Foundation.

In the news release announcing him as the scholarship recipient, Buffington is described as having "a passion for technical theatre, musical theatre, and acting...(immersing) himself in the Gainesville High Theatre and the Thespian Troupe 2445.

He participated in community theatre and became a state thespian officer, dance captain, light designer, and light board operator.  He will be continuing his education at the University of North Georgia in the fall semester.

The scholarship fund was initially spearheaded by Julian Prosser, the 1964 class president, Jim Moore and David Sargent; many other classmates donated to the fund, with Larry Adams, Jan Smith and Patricia Fargason making up the scholarship selection committee. The class raised enough funds to endow the scholarship at NGCF, and at the Gainesville High School Honors Night program, Buffington was awarded the first scholarship.
