The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of a man shot and killed Tuesday night by sheriff's deputies in Forsyth County.

According to the preliminary investigation, Charles Spillers, 65, of Cumming was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife at their home on Carbonne Court.

A 911 call was made to the Forsyth County 911 Center just before 10 p.m. Tuesday and deputies were dispatched to the Spillers' home.

GBI findings indicated a physical altercation had occurred between Spillers and his wife.

When deputies went inside the residence, they found Spillers brandishing a gun, according to the GBI press statement. At that point, a deputy fired at Spillers and struck him multiple time. Spillers died at the scene.

The GBI said an autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in DeKalb County.

Once the GBI investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit for review.
