Jeep crashes into Gainesville Dunkin Donuts location

Gainesville police are investigating the cause of a three-vehicle crash on Thompson Bridge Road that sent an SUV careening into a Dunkin Donuts shop Tuesday evening.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m.

William Hernandez, an employee of Dunkin Donuts, was inside the shop at the time of the crash. He told AccessWDUN it's a blessing the exterior of the store was so sturdy.

"It held the Jeep at the speed it was going," Hernandez said. "So the builders of this building, thank God for them...making it out of brick."

Hernandez said a woman with a toddler was about to walk through the door of the store when the accident occurred. She was able to jump back as the Jeep hit the building.

"If the wall was not there, she would be gone along with the baby," Hernandez said. "Not to mention, she is five months pregnant."

A language barrier prevented the woman from speaking with AccessWDUN about the ordeal.

A police report on the cause of the crash was not available as of 9:30 Tuesday night.
