A Hart County grandmother said she killed a bobcat with her bare hands after the animal attacked her outside her home on Liberty Church Road.
It turns out the animal was rabid, so DeDe Phillips, 46, is undergoing a series of rabies shots at Northeast Georgia Medical Center to ward off the disease.
The Athens Banner Herald reported that Phillips had gone outside around 6 p.m. the night of June 7. She saw the bobcat and took a photo with her cell phone and that's when the animal lunged at her.
The newspaper said Phillips grabbed the bobcat around the throat and strangled it.
In the process of the fight with the animal, Phillips suffered bites and scratches. Relatives have set up an account to help cover medical costs. You can read more about that effort and more about the attack at fundly.com.
