Drivers along State Route 13 between Lanier Islands Parkway and Sawnee Ave. in Buford will shift to the westbound lanes as construction partners with E.R. Snell start work on the eastbound lanes.

The shift is scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 22, according to GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland.

Drivers along SR 13, also called Buford Highway,  may have already seen message boards along the project limits notifying them of the upcoming shift.

The project will widen SR 13 to four lanes - two lanes in each direction,  with a 20 foot raised grass median, there will also be bike lanes and a 5-foot sidewalk on both sides of the route.

E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. of Snellville, Georgia  was awarded the project in June of 2016 and will complete the project in June of 2020. This project will increase safety and increase the capacity between Gwinnett and Hall counties, according to GDOT.
