Per Capita, Dawson county reports the highest injury and fatality rate in the state for teenage drivers, according to statistics from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

In other words, DOT Spokeswoman Katie Strickland says 29.2% or 1,034 of the injury and fatality crashes reported in Dawson County involve drivers aged 15  to 19 compared to other age groups.

She added, "That is a compilation of statistics that were gathered from 2013 to 2017."

In Habersham County, she says the statistics are at 19.1% or 415 teen drivers were either injured or killed in crashes between 2013 and 2017.

Strickland says she's taking the Drive Alert Arrive Alive campaign into the schools to try to help educate new drivers and lower these numbers.
