CHATSWORTH, Ga. (AP) — Search crews found and rescued seven people reported missing after a hike in the remote Cohutta Wilderness Area of the north Georgia mountains.
WSB-TV reports the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and other agencies had been searching for the group Monday, after they were last seen at Jacks River Falls, which is in Fannin County.
Tennessee's West Polk County Volunteer Fire and Rescue reported on social media that the lost hikers were spotted by a Georgia DNR helicopter late Monday morning and later that crews assisted walking them out of the area. The call was cleared just before 2 p.m., according to a post on the page.
Crews were able to pick up the three adults and four children, according to information on the fire rescue's Facebook page.
The heavily wooded and mountainous Cohutta Wilderness Area near the Georgia-Tennessee line is among the most remote areas of Georgia.
