Posted 1:33AM on Friday 27th April 2018 ( 6 years ago )

A multi-vehicle crash shut down Thompson Bridge Road Thursday afternoon.

Gainesville Fire Division Chief Keith Smith said four people suffered injuries in the crash with emergency crews transporting them to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash around 3:30 p.m.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the crash happened when a pickup truck driver crossed over the center line and hit two cars.

"During the crash, the pickup truck did catch fire," Holbrook said.

At this time, investigators are unsure why the driver of the truck drove into the oncoming lane of traffic.

He added that driver and three other people were taken to the hospital. Holbrook said the driver of the pickup was in critical condition. Names of those involved have not been released.

The road reopened around 6:30 p.m.
