Experts: April is the peak of tornado season in Georgia

Posted 9:15PM on Sunday 1st April 2018 ( 6 years ago )

Georgia's tornado season stretches from March through May but experts say it peaks in April.

Dr. Kathryn Sullivan with the National Weather Service says it's important to know the difference between a watch and a warning. "A warning lets you know the weather hazard is imminent. It's either occurring, like a tornado has been spotted, or it's about to occur at any moment," Sullivan explains. "When you hear a weather warning, it's important to take action right away. So, both watches and warnings are important, but warnings are more urgent."

You should put together a supply kit including daily medications, water, food, and a weather radio.

As well, you should post on social media where you take shelter in case someone needs to look for you after the emergency has passed.

Weather experts also say the hilly terrain of northeast Georgia makes a tornado difficult to see especially among the hail and rain. So, don't take any chances.
