The Jackson County Correctional Institution has been singled-out by two groups for special recognition.
The facility's Adult Basic Education Program is the recipient of the state Department of Corrections' North Region Academic Excellence for Highest Completions on the GED.
In addition, the American Legion in Jefferson has awarded a commendation to the prison for its inmate fire department.
