Jefferson Police interviewing 'person of interest' in alleged school Snapchat threat

Posted 10:07AM on Tuesday 13th March 2018 ( 6 years ago )
Jefferson Police were interviewing a person of interest Tuesday morning following an alleged social media threat against Jefferson High School.

Police Chief Joe Wirthman said police were notified through a third party call about the potentially threatening Snapchat post early Tuesday morning.

"My officers went out, looked at the Snapchat," Wirthman said. "We got investigators involved right away, and went out and were able to contact the person that may have made these statements on Snapchat."

While investigators questioned the person, Wirthman said the District Attorney's Office had been notified.

"The schools are safe.  We feel (they're) secure and that they're safe," Wirthman said.

The chief said officers notified the school system, and would provide updates as they become available.
