GAINESVILLE — Charlie Wall hit a grand slam to cap a five-run fifth inning as Gainesville rallied for a 7-3 win over Madison County Monday at Ivey-Watson Field.
It was the fourth straight win for the Red Elephants (7-4).
Gainesville trailed 2-0 after the third inning but scored twice in the fourth to tie the game. The Raiders reclaimed the lead 3-2 in top of the fifth but Gainesville took the lead for good with its big inning.
The Red Elephants pounded out 10 hits. Wall finished 3 for 3 with four RBI and Cale Conley had a hit and two RBI for the Red Elephants. Jared Smith had two hits, Cameron Wilson, Collier Scott, Jackson Kemp, and Clay Coffey all had one hit for Gainesville.
Scott got the win going six innings allowing three runs on seven hits while fanning eight.
LUMPKIN COUNTY 10,
UNION COUNTY 7
Lumpkin County (6-5, 1-3 Region 7-AAA) snapped a three-game losing streak to snag its first Region 7-AAA victory of the season Monday in Dahlonega.
It was the region opener for the Panthers (5-4, 0-1) who have lost three straight.
Both offenses swung hot bats as Lumpkin collected 14 hits and Union County had 12 for the game. The Panthers led three separate times in the first three innings and then took a 5-4 lead in the fifth before Lumpkin exploded for six runs in the fifth and sixth to take the lead for good.
Union County scored first on a Coleson Daniel RBI hit and led 3-0 in the top of the second on a two-run double by Patrick Baggett. Union added another run in the fourth.
Lumpkin answered with two in the bottom of the second and the Indians scored two more in the third when Dalton Caldwell singled in a run and Tucker Kirk drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
In the sixth, Lumpkin got RBI hits from Conner Pierce and Jacob Martin.
Dalton Stephens earned the win on the mound for Lumpkin surrendering five runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two. Austin Black and Kirk closed out the game in relief with Kirk recording the final two outs to get the save.
Cayden Rich took the loss for Union County yielding six runs on six hits over three innings with five strikeouts.
Harkins started the game for Union County allowing four runs on eight hits in three innings.
