A man was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle in Dawson County Monday afternoon.

Dawson County Fire and EMS Chief Lanier Swafford said the accident happened around 2:15 p.m. on Ga. 136 East at Clear Creek Road.

"Upon units' arrival, we found a large oak tree across the entire roadway," Swafford said. "[The tree] had fallen across the cab of a pickup truck."

Swafford said the truck was traveling in the area when the falling tree hit the vehicle.

The driver of the truck, identified by the Georgia State Patrol as 47-year-old Stanley Richard Henson of Blue Ridge, was the only person in the vehicle in the time. Investigators said he was killed on impact.

Henson was a volunteer firefighter for Fannin County.

While the Georgia State Patrol will handle the investigation, Swafford noted that weather conditions could have played a part in the accident.

"There's been a wind advisory in our area for most of the day," Swafford said. In addition, the ground was wet because of rain on Sunday and Monday.
