CARNESVILLE — An alert deputy from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office made a dent in the region’s methamphetamine supply during a traffic stop Tuesday.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said the March 6 drug recovery came during a traffic stop for a traffic violation on Interstate 85 northbound.

Deputy Jason Roach of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit performed the stop.

During that stop, a probable cause and consent search were performed on the vehicle, Thomas said.

“Inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, deputies discovered six kilograms, approximately 13.2 pounds, of methamphetamine,” Thomas said. “This drug will not make it to the streets of Georgia or any other state.”

The street value of the drug is $150,000.

The vehicle’s occupants, including a Buford man, were placed under arrest for trafficking methamphetamine.

Thomas identified the men arrested as Sair Antonio Calderon Pacheco, 19, of Forest Park and Joiquen Reyes, 33, of Buford.

Sair Antonio Calderon Pacheco of Forest Park, left, and Joiquen Reyes of Buford are charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a Tuesday traffic stop on I-85 in Franklin County.
