Dowling takes 2nd in backstroke to lead Brenau at NAIA Championships

COLUMBUS — The Brenau University swim team had several top performances Friday at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships.

Junior Lindsay Dowling placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.57.  Freshman Nikoletta Alvanou finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.44.

Meanwhile, there were several other swimmers that qualified for finals events on Saturday.

Sarah Frey in the 400-yard individual medley, Kamryn Cater in the 100-yard butterfly, Ella Kleinschmidt in the 200-yard freestyle and Yanne Toussaint in the 100-yard breaststroke all advanced as did the 200-yard medley relay team.

The event will continue Saturday in Columbus.
