For the second time in less than a week, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a traffic fatality on Browns Bridge Road.

The latest incident occurred Saturday just before 3 p.m., according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater, and it happened close to the same location as last week's fatality crash.

Rainwater said the victim, 26-year-old Wachovia Thompson of Monroe County, was a front-seat passenger in a 2002 Infiniti, which crossed the centerline of Browns Bridge Road near Floyd Lane.

"The Infiniti was traveling east and, for whatever reason, the Infiniti lost control, started sliding...crossed over the centerline, went into the westbound lane and at that point, the Infiniti struck a 2006 Chevrolet K3500, which is dually-type truck," Rainwater said.

Rainwater identified the driver of the Infiniti as 34 year-old Ryan Travanti Stephens of Gainesville. Stephens was transported to a local hospital in what Rainwater described as critical condition. He said charges could be brought against Stephens, but investigators are unable to speak with him while he is hospitalized.

The driver of the Chevrolet was 43 year-old Paul Stewart of Cumming, according to Rainwater.  He said Stewart and two juvenile passengers in the truck were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Rainwater said the stretch of road where the two accidents occurred is not particularly dangerous.

"It's very straightforward in terms of visibility...we believe at this point, it's not related to anything on the roadway," Rainwater said. "It's strictly what is happening inside that car and how the driver is paying attention."

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
