ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Extra-base hits were the choice for the No. 7 University of North Georgia softball team as the Nighthawks defeated West Alabama, 3-1, Sunday morning in the final game of the South/Southeast Region Crossover, hosted by Flagler.
Four of UNG's five hits were for extra bases, including the first hit of the game in the third when Brittany Gilliam hit a homer to right field to open the scoring.
In the fourth, the Nighthawks plated two runs off two doubles, one by Alishia Frierson and a two-RBI double from Kaylyn Anthony that put UNG up, 3-0.
West Alabama scored their only run in the seventh on a Haylie Best RBI single.
NOTES
- Laken Chambers earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season. Kylee Smith earned her first save of the season.
- Anthony led the way at the plate for the Nighthawks, finishing 2-for-3. Both hits were for doubles.
- North Georgia is now 9-0 against West Alabama all-time. The Nighthawks are currently 11-0 in 2018.
NEXT UP
UNG will have its home opener on February 14 as they play host to Shorter. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium.
