Gainesville has been selected a top retirement destination by Where to Retire, the only magazine in the country geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions.

Gainesville is profiled in a feature titled “8 Lovely Lake Cities” in the March/April 2018 issue, available nationwide on February 13.

Where to Retire Editor Annette Fuller said many relocation retirees seek the benefit of being near water, but without the coastal weather flare-ups.

“Many retirees are drawn to live on or near a lake.  Lake Lanier, the state’s second largest lake, draws boaters, fishermen, and campers, but the lake also has restaurants and golf courses along the shoreline.  The calm waters create lovely landscapes and support a diversity of wildlife, and then, there’s the pure solace of it all,” Fuller added.

The other "Lovely Lake Cities" included by the magazine are Branson, MO; Georgetown, TX; Kalispell, MT; Kissimmee, FL; Lakewood/Puyallup, WA; St. Tammany Parish, LA; and Sevierville, TN.
